Cumbie's C.R.E.E.P.S.

My C.R.E.E.P.S. started as one of those life changing accidents. I was getting ready for a show in Atlanta and got stuck on a big piece that I was working on. Instead of driving myself crazy for a few more hours, I took some advice from my fiancé and changed my focus for a minute. I decided to make a small piece of art for her. I used elements of unfinished pieces that were lying around my studio, refined them and put them all together to create something fun and weirdly emotional. Which totally represents our relationship. Right then my first C.R.E.E.P. was born. She shared a picture of it on my social media pages and it got some crazy positive feedback. I decided to make about 30 more just to see how they did. It was some of the most satisfying work I had ever produced. Their reception at my next show was wild and humbling. So here I am now, creating more C.R.E.E.P.S. and loving all the endless possibilities. I get bored easily so to combat that they continue to morph and change as I add in different elements and further detail. I get stoked each time one of them finds their perfect home. I just hope they do as much for others as they do for me....

Each one of my C.R.E.E.P.S. is a handmade, original work-of-art. The bodies are carved from broken antique chairs, banisters, cribs or driftwood from Mobile Bay. The heads are carved from solid wood spheres. Once the carving is completed, the bodies, heads and boxes are hand-painted, sanded and waxed, then fine details and the sayings are burned into the wood.

No two C.R.E.E.P.S. are ever the same.
